Oh yea, one year older, baby! Most people after age 35 don’t get too hyped up over another birthday.
In fact, most people view getting older as something not to talk about at all, and that’s really sad to us because at Williams Loving Care, we celebrate getting older every day! Aging gracefully can be one of the most adventurous times in your life.
As you age, you realize what is truly important in life and make it a point to spend more time doing these things. Here are some thought-provoking pointers to keep in mind when thinking about how to live life to the fullest:
1) Risky Business is more than a movie title!
What’s life without a bit of risk? As you age, you’re willing to risk more. You know what makes you happy and you are willing to do what it takes to get what you want. When you stay in your comfort zone you start to ask too many “what ifs” and that isn’t something you want to look back on. You want to be able to look back and say “remember when”. If the idea of taking a risk is off putting, start off small. You don’t have to quit your job and start new at the beginning. Go out with a friend instead of staying home and watching movies all night.
2) Don’t hold the “I Love You’s” for another day!
Don’t forget to tell those in your life that you love and care for them. Life is too short to not remind them. Pick up the phone and call them if you don’t see them often. Send a text message. If you see them in person, give them a hug- we all need more hugs these days! Another way to show love is to show appreciation. Compliment others when they’re doing a good job. When you tell others they’re doing great, it brings a smile to their face and a smile can brighten your day as well as theirs! Your family and friends are the ones who are there for you throughout your life so make sure they know how much you appreciate them being there for you.
3) Comparing yourself with others is for young people only!
We actually wish the younger generation caught onto this principle sooner in life, because, man- what heartache would they be able to avoid by never comparing themselves with others!? When you compare where you are in your life to those around you, it complicates things. You begin to doubt yourself. It can cause stress on relationships and unnecessary stress for yourself. When you look back at your life, you don’t want to stress about decisions you made or things you tried in order to keep up with everyone else. You want to look back at your life and see that you did what you needed to do at the pace YOU needed to do it.
4) Stay True to Y-O-U!
Stay true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in. As you are going about your day, you’ll feel much better if you don’t try to hide who you are. Who you are is unique and beautiful and that’s who people want to see everyday. It’s okay to be the odd one out, as long as you’re standing up for what you believe in. We have our own two feet and our own brains for a reason! Seize every opportunity that comes your way!
Living life to the fullest doesn’t always mean doing crazy things. We’re not saying you have to climb a mountain at 75 years old, or jump out of an airplane, although it would be really cool if you did!! Living life to the fullest means you lived without regrets. That you said “I love you” plenty of times. You made plenty of memories to pass down to your kids. Speaking of your kids- they want to see you happy! These things will make you happy and that will come through in the vibes that you’re putting off. So get out there and enjoy life!!
